Green Velvet or Winter Gem?

Green Velvet is a compact, rounded boxwood for borders and low hedges. Compare its mature scale with Winter Gem before choosing plants for a narrow bed.

Height and foliage

NC State lists Green Velvet at 2–3 feet tall and wide with deep green foliage. It lists Winter Gem at 4–6 feet tall with lighter foliage. Reference dimensions describe growth, not the stock supplied.

Site and care

Morning sun and protection from winter wind suit Green Velvet. Avoid wet soil. Even with good resistance to winter bronzing, its foliage can suffer in exposed conditions; it is susceptible to blights.
