Know your row length instead?

We divide planned coverage by suggested spacing and round up, allowing half a spacing interval beyond each end tree. Adjust the quantity as needed.

New areas reuse your tree and height to save time; quantities stay separate.

How many privacy trees do you need?

The planner divides your row length by the selected spacing and rounds up to a whole tree. Spacing is measured between trunks. Its coverage guide allows half a spacing interval beyond each end tree; the distance from the first trunk to the last is one interval shorter.

For illustration, a 60-foot row at 6-foot spacing gives 10 trees. That places the first and last trunks 54 feet apart, with a 3-foot planning allowance at each end. This explains the arithmetic; it is not a spacing recommendation for every plant or a surveyed layout.

Measure separate runs around gates and openings rather than counting them as one continuous row. Minimum order: 10 trees across the order. Check mature width, boundaries and access before confirming placement. The diagram does not show guaranteed immediate coverage.

Single or staggered rows?

A staggered layout uses offset rows and needs more planting depth than a single row. Allow space for each variety’s mature width and good air circulation when choosing a layout.

Use this calculator for one row at a time. It does not automatically calculate a staggered two-row layout. For help planning two rows, include the length and depth of your planting space in your quote request so we can review the layout and tree count with you.

Take the estimate back to your yard.

Check the proposed row against fences, gates and the space the plants will need as they grow. Include separate planting lengths for separate areas. Your estimate is a starting point; we still need to confirm availability, access and delivery for your ZIP.
